DESCRIPTION; USS Lexington (CVA-16) underway in WestPac waters, with Carrier Air Group 21 (CVG-21), August 16, 1958. Just eight days later, on August 24, Communist Chinese artillery began shelling the Nationalist Chinese islands of Quemoy and Matsu, prompting Blue Ghost's deployment to the Taiwan Straits at various times during the next four months, along with other units of the Seventh Fleet.

VAW-11 Det.J was assigned to Air Task Group Three (ATG-3) aboard the Kearsarge for a deployment to the western Pacific from 9 August 1957 to 2 April 1958.

On 1 July 1959 VF-64 was redesignated VF-21. Four F3H-2s are visible: BuNos 143457, 145205, 145213, and 145215.

Robbie, Thanks for sharing the very interesting photos (AND Happy Birthday!). The 10 year period from about 1955 to about 1964 is my favorite for military and civil aircraft. There was a fantastic variety of military jets and prop aircraft in service and military aircraft were at their most colorful during that era.

1958 was probably among the best of these years.

Man, y'all are OLD. I wouldn't know about all that ancient stuff, I'm just a young pup ...... born in 1959. :rolleyes:

I turned forty on 9-9-99, and hit fifty on 09-09-09. What can it mean? :shock:

Wow, my youngest daughter turned 21 on 09-09-99 and she had twin daughters on 09-09-09!

A happy birthday to you - I'd ask what 50 is like, but I can wait seven months :roll:

Take a close look at the tail of the Voodoo - looks retouched to me; especially the tail number.
