Here are some photos my dad took of a Boeing Model 450 B-47E Stratojet SN 52-0502 at Casper, Wyoming.

Great photos! The third picture shows the standard WWII issue Second Air Force heavy bombardment (B-17/B-24) hangar in the background. The airplane is most likely long gone, but I think both of those hangars are still standing.

Ellen and I spent last week visiting WWII airfields and other sites in Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. We spent a day at Casper taking photos of the over 100 remaining WWII structures and installations. Here's a modern-day photo of the back side of the "Casper Air Service" hangar in Larry's father's photo. I apologize for not getting a ramp-side photo, but I wasn't able to get TSA permission to access the hot side of the airport. Next time we go to Casper we'll take our flying machine so I can get a better shot......

The little round-topped hangar is still there also.

It doesn't look like it was there for an airshow, so perhaps a maintenance or fuel issue.

I doubt if they landed bombers off USAF bases just for fun, in case they developed a mantenance issue trying to get started again.
I doubt if the local Cessna dealer would have the parts (or ladders) to fix it. :D

I've heard of fighter/trainer/transport or base hack pilots flying a plane to their hometown but never a bomber.

Any ex-SAC guys care to comment?

At the time the photo was taken the airfield was shared use by civilian and military. The Wyoming Air Gaurd was active on the field. If you look to the east, from the front of the B-47E in one of the photos there is a group of F-86s parked on the ramp.

It belongs to the 43rd BMW's 63rd BS...out of Davis-Monthan.
Current from 25 Sept 1953 to 15 March 1960.

Cool stuff! I've always liked the looks of the B-47. They look like a huge fighter jet rather than a bomber.
