MS20270 Universal Joints

Wed Dec 09, 2009 11:38 pm

Hello All.

Have a question about using MS20270 light duty universal joints. There is one universal on the Yale in the flap system, that goes between the rear flap control and the attachment tube to the wing. The one removed has some play in it and I want to replace it but there in no part number on the universal. The more common used Heavy duty MS20271 does not fit the dimension specification of the one that was removed, were as the light duty MS20270B10 fit the specification exactly. There are difference in how much torque each type can handle but would the MS20270 be ok for the replacement.

You removed a North American Aviation part for which you have no part number and want to replace it with a
MS20270B10 which seems to fit?

Is there not a part number called out in the parts book?

It is hard to say from an engineering perspective if you don't know what materials the original U-joint was made from or know the calculated torsion load from the original stress analysis.

Do you know what materials the MS20270B10 is made from? I can probably look up the MS20270/AN270 spec on Friday if someone can't do it for you sooner. Send me a PM if you need a copy. If it is available I will get it for you.
