Help with ID

Mon Nov 23, 2009 6:49 am

This one has been driving my curiosity since I saw it in the ID group at flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/old_coasty/2857735529/in/pool-37292378@N00). Does anyone knows what it is? The caption reads: "Taken some where around Philadelphia, PA. Possibly at Pitcairn Airport in Horsham, PA. "

Just a guess ...... Keystone K-47.

K-47A 1927 (ATC 2-54) = Three 220hp Wright J-5; span: (upper) 66'6" (lower) 75'0" length: 46'0" load: 4485# v: 113/95/46 range: 500. POP: 1 [NC1612]; went to PAA in 1928. Later with three 525hp Wright Cyclone; v: 150/x/55.

Note the lower wing has considerably more span than the upper, and in the pics from Aerofiles linked below, notice high-mounted wing engines ( look to be covered in the " unknown " pic ), and the very pronounced angle of the outer wing struts, just noticeable in the " unknown " pic, but can be made out.

indeed, it looks you have found it :) Many thanks

From wikipedia this would be the second K-47, the first being lost. The second also has extensions on the lower wing , making them bigger that the upper...

Very cool indeed, thanks!
