NAVAIR Squadron Operational Histories

Mon Oct 19, 2009 4:56 pm

Does anyone know where to look to find out Naval squadron operational histories? In specific I'm interested to learn about the missions flown by the VF-211 "Fighting Checkmates" on their 64-65 & 65-66 cruises in Vietnam.

While cleaning out my parents basement I recently came across several of my Uncle's 3" audio reels from these cruises. While I try and locate a reel to reel player I would like to learn as much the about the missions flown as I can.

Thanks

Thanks. That's a basic squadron history. What I'm seeking is a bit more specific. I'm looking for Mission histories or accounts from the 64-65 and 65-66 deployments of VF-211 to Vietnam aboard the USS Hancock. Thanks again though.

Shay, try contacting the editors of "The Hook", the publication of the Tailhook Association. They often publish quite detailed squadron histories.

Good luck!

I have obtained complete squadron histories, AARs, etc via NARA at College Park and the Navy History Center.
