It's the first time I've seen the "fore planes" extended.
Also I like the dedication on the picture. I know that they are the (soon to be) bad guys, but some poor sod's have sweated blood to get those three airborne!

Nice to see some Tomcats flying somewhere. Hopefully they will wind up safely in a museum someday, and wont have to get on the bad end of Randy's F-15. :wink:

I wonder if they would be up for a Grumman Cat flight. :lol:

My understanding is that the glove vanes were deactivated on the US Tomgrapes.

the pentagon for some years has stated that the iranian air force fashioned their own spare parts to keep a few of the f-14's still flying that have been in service for 30 years to get around the embargo when the shah was overthrown.

The US didn't just sell them F-14A's in the 70's, they sold a total infastructure to maintain the aircraft too. It doesn't surprise me at all that they could machine thier own parts. They most likely have the whole aircraft manufacturers drawings on microfilm which the US openly sold to them at the time.

Well, if the Iranian people can get rid of Ah'madinnerjacket and his Basiji thugs, we've got a pretty solid chance at seeing that country turn around and rejoin the international community as a member in good standing. It's d@mn sure not for lack of trying on their part, as the riots this summer demonstrated.

An expensive, manpower intensive aircraft, but if it's the best you have in the inventory, you find a way to keep them up. I would guess their flight hours are VERY restricted to keep the wear and tear down.

Last I was there, they still had a handful of P-3's also that they would send up to play air-to-air chicken with us during our Strait of Hormuz transit.

One thing you can say...regardless of who is flying/maintaining them, American aircraft certainly have impressive longevity!
