Hello Peter,

Most definitely installed on aircraft. As I recall two of them were mounted on the back of certain Pacific Theatre Mustangs and other aircraft as well.

There was a thread on this a while ago with some great photos but I haven't figured out how to use the search function properly as I get way too many hits.

The thread came from Jack IIRC.
These are something we hope to put on a Mustang in an IWO scheme some day.

The AR8 antenna were also installed, two on the bottom of each wing on Korean A-26s as well as B-29s.
