Rockford Airfest 2009 Additional photos

Tue Aug 25, 2009 2:56 pm

This past weekend the 2009 Airfest was held in Rockford Illinois.
The promoted theme of the show was the F-22 Raptor which attracted good crowds. Heavy rains Thursday night and on and off on Friday led to a slow start but it got better.

This is one of the SU-27s and we looked at the other in the hanger.

And the boneyard that has been mentioned here before. There were multiple T-28s disassembled, a T-33, multiple Mig 15s and 17s and some others.

I will try to post some more photos tonight, I have to work in the real world for a while now.

Art Nalls taxiing out for Friday practice. Art also did a routine in his L-39.

The F-22 and Heritage Flight had a slow start with a weather cancellation Friday. The Saturday am practice was aborted when an emergency indication forced an early conclusion. The show demo was aborted in the afternoon with computer gliches. It did finally happen on Sunday.

The static B-1. They were giving cockpit tours! I saw major disappointment and even tears when it was cutoff on Sunday.

So sad to see the On-Mark looking like this. Anyone with a clue as to the condition of the airframe?

Rockford A-26

TJ,
I have seen this A-26 for many years near Courtesy. It has since been towed to a more remote location. I have heard major work is necessary to return to airworthy and I believe it has been a topic on WIX. It is quite sad to see it has become a pigeon perch without a clear future.

Who's is that?

The A-26 was owned by Jack Rodgers. I know he had done some reskining on it so they could ferry it to DuPage airport in the early 1990's
It was on the ramp at Air Classic's when Jack was killed. I don't think it has changed hands after that. I was in it once after it came to DuPage if I recall it was very rough. Someone had to fly it to Rockford.

It was for sale through Courtesy last year or so, but it didn't sell. It is currently on barnstormers.com.
