Neat!
Forgive my ignorance. Any idea why the insurance company would keep the logs? And is any chance to retieve them? With the statement "No FAA paperwork comes with it" how difficult does that make it to register to fly?

Maybe due to the original aircraft was written off as destroyed, and when the insurance paid off, it became the owner, and the logs transfered to them. They sold off the remnents as scrap. Since the airplane was de-registered with the FAA as destroyed, there is no paperwork trail any more.
If the original data plate exists, then the new owner will have to apply for a new registration, and airworthiness certifice from the FAA, and all repairs will have to be documented and approved by an appropriate rated mechanic.

If one were interested in doing so, there are other BT-13s projects out there with dataplates and chains-of-ownership, but are missing lots of parts.
Buying up a couple of these projects might yield a complete bird without having to go through the process of re-creating a registration.
Of course, there is also that part where you have to put all the pieces together in order to make it fly.

Sometimes you can also purchase the paperwork for one that really no longer exists and using a project like this one, recreate it. Really raises hell with historians, but if you really want to raise one it can be done. Like Randy said though, you still have to put it together.
