American aircraft part found in England - i/d it please?

This is an appeal from across the pond, on behalf of Denis, of the Flypast Forum.

Here is what he says is an elevator trim control handle, found on the site of a former RAF station.

It's an aileron trim , found it on what was once RAF Sawbridgeworth.
Aircraft that were in use there included Lysander, Tomahawk and Mustang 1.
Any clues people?.

It appears to be an American part and, so far, no-one on the Flypast Forum has been able to identify it for him.

Can any of you folks "over here" help out?

The operative question is why would an elevator trim control say "AILERON TRIM" on it? Of course my eyes could be playing tricks on me...

Here's a better picture provided by Denis, and yes, it clearly states aileron trim rather than elevator. Apologies, my fault entirely!

...and the unit has now been tentatively identified as probably coming from a Vickers built machine of the Viking/Valetta/ Varsity era.

So much for my initial guess that it was an American piece!
