Hangar fire ??

Sun Jul 19, 2009 7:24 pm

IIRC, this guy used to be based in Tehachapi, CA. He had neat stuff there, and for the last few years, he posts his ads with Shafter, CA as his p.o.r.

Anyway, here it is, from Barnstormers:

F-86L FUSELAGE • FOR SALE CHEAP • Just had hanger fire.Damaged fuselage w/data plate.Bring long trailer, crane and any cash amount. • Contact Lyle C. Strader located Shafter, CA USA • Telephone: 661-747-4932 • Posted July 19, 2009

Yeah, I saw that too. He was talking to me last week about the OH-58 parts I have, but he also has an ad on Barnstormers saying he needs another fuselage, so it must've gotten burned up as well. Darn shame. I hope nobody was hurt and there wasn't much more damage done.

Found this.......

SHAFTER, CA – Sunday, July 19th, 2009 at 1:56 A.M., a call was received
by the Kern County Fire Department for a hanger fire in the 200 block of
Aviation Street at Minter Field Airport in Shafter. Approximately 24
Kern County Firefighters, assisted by 4 firefighters from the state
corrections facility in Wasco, responded to the incident.

Upon arrival, crews were faced with an occupancy of approximately 700
square feet heavily involved in fire within a building of approximately
6000 square feet. The first crews on scene cautiously attacked the fire,
because of reported World War II ordinance being stored in one of the
units. Fire damage was limited to structure and contents of the initial
unit with 5 exposures receiving minor damage. No aircraft were damaged.
Cause is under investigation.
Property saved is estimated to be in excess of a $1,000,000, damage to
the structure is estimated at $100,000, and contents loss to the fire
unit is unknown at the time of this release.
There were no reported injuries.

Thank you, Gary.

There was a posting last night on B'stormers, showing the F-86 fuselage he is selling.

That has to suck big time, having a fire destroy what you treasure so much...

Yeah, I'm "in negotiation" with him about the F-86 fuselage as we speak.

Any pictures of it to share yet?

There are pictures of the F-86 on Barnstormers.com. Sorry, but I don't have the link right now.

I haven't made a deal yet, but we'll see. I really don't need to be collecting anymore stuff here, but since I'm hoping to trade him for some "junque" that I have here, maybe that'll be okay.

Did you see the Voodoo nose (with one seat!) in the backround of one of the F-86 photos posted on Barnstomers Gary? Wonder if he'd throw that in too...?? Keep us posted!
