370th FG 9th AF 1945

Those Groups operating from forward airfields in Europe had to deal with weather and jumping from field to field as the ground forces advanced towards Germany. I wonder how many 9th AF aircraft were damaged or destroyed in landing/takeoff accidents at these rapidly built fields? I just finished reading about XIX TAC and their cooperation with Third Army. The winter of '44/'45 was full of bad weather and deteriorating runway conditions at the advanced fields.

Scott

looks gone to me

Is that a grade or a Richter scale reading ?

A friend, who has since passed on, served as a Met. Officer at advanced bases post D-Day. He suggested some pretty scary situations with the tough winter conditions for their operations and the bravery of the young pilots flying ops on those conditions.
