Does anyone have photos or stories of Neil Armstrong related to anything other than his astronaut days? He flew combat in Korea and set records in the X-15. Most folks think of him as an astronaut but he was/is quite the accomplished pilot.

I haven't heard that or thought of that story in years.
Don't know if it is true, but it is funny!

Yep...a falsehood, but an inspiration to all the "Gorsky's" out there, as a banner of hope that dreams can come true!

i met him in 2003 at the dayton national aviation hall of fame event. quite an honor to shake his hand. very nice & humble man. i read some years back that as he was de-planing a private jet & that his ring caught a railing & he wound up losing that finger. true?? false??

I've met him several times, most recently at a
VF-51 reunion in P'cola. My memory is that he
has all 10 fingers

There is something in his biography about a serious injury to one of his fingers that required surgery. I believe it happened on his farm in Ohio...

From wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_armstrong
"In the fall of 1979, Armstrong was working at his farm near Lebanon, Ohio. As he jumped off of the back of his grain truck, his wedding ring caught in the wheel, tearing off his ring finger. However, he calmly collected the severed digit, packed it in ice, and managed to have it reattached by microsurgeons at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky."
