what carrier is currently used for training and qualifications in the USN.

The T-45 is used as far as I know.

I didn't know the T-45 was a aircraft carrier, I always thought it was a aircraft.

As far as I know it is based on carier availibilty. Whichever one is out at the time.

For fixed wing, it's whatever carrier happens to have availability that coincides with the need. There's no dedicated training deck.
Rotary wing pilots have a dedicated training deck with the "Baylander". Basically it's an old Vietnam-era lighter/transport (think it started out as a ship in the Army's Navy) that's been converted to be able to land helos up to an SH-60 in size (although most often Jet Rangers).

I didn't know the army had a "navy" until I went to Ft. Eustis in NE VA. Weird.

During WW2, the Army had a bigger navy than the Navy did! Or so I've heard!!

Might be like the RAAF had more boats than the RAN in W.W.II; but the total tonnage (probably 'poundage' actually!) was a fraction of the navy's ships.

Eric is right, whatever carrier is out exercising their flightdeck and flightdeck crew gets the tasking. A week after the Bush got her deck certified for the first time, they had their Air Wing, several of the RAG's and Air Training Command coming over the ramp.

Yup, during WW2 the US Army had the largest waterborne fleet in the world...somewhere I have links to
a webpage or 2 on the subject.

Who owns the most ships? The Navy, Coast Guard or the Army.
Answer is the Army has Navy ship are owned by DOD, Coast Guard by the Treasury Dept (then DOT now HS)but the Army owns their own.

No cat shots, no arrestments, but two deck runs off the boats (Forrestal, Saratoga) in C-1A Traders...fun stuff! And many (can't remember them all) landings and T/O's in helos from those two boats and the Eisenhower.
