Vintage collector in Maricopa, AZ?

Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:02 pm

Hearing news reports that a hangar with 8 vintage aircraft and some vintage motorcyles has burned with the loss of all contents. Did not say what type of aircraft, just that they were vintage. Anybody know more or care to speculate.

I was not at the Phx regional airport. I talked to my friend there and he has no idea where it was.

I found a Rae Williams that had 5 or 6 vintage aircraft but some were registered in Alabama and some in New York.

Any other ideas?

Same ones I found, but none are shown in Arizona, although the registrations for each are out of date.

Here are some others registered in Maricopa, AZ, just in case there were other people hangared at his airfield.

N24869, ARIE H DEJONG - PIPER J3L-65 - 1931
N44021, DALE BAWDEN - TAYLORCRAFT BC12-D - 1946
N4318C, ERIC DIPPOLD - CHAMPION 7EC - 1955
N16652, HAROLD HAWKINS - PIPER J-2 - 1936
N1683P, HARRY L FLINT - PIPER PA-22 - 1954
N29234, HARRY L FLINT - AERONCA 65-CA - 1940
N5516H, JONG ARIE H DE - PIPER PA-11
N30503, JONG ARIE H DE - PIPER J3C-65 - 1940
N61249, TAYLOR PHILIP A - BOEING B75N1 - 1943
N6079M, WORTH JOHN E - STINSON 108-3 - 1947

And considering the Flying Bucket private airfield is only a 2900' long, turf (or dirt out here) field, I'd suspect nothing larger than any of these.

If you haven't been out that way, there are a TON of private airfields - there's about 7 within a few miles of this one... I guess someone decided that the only EASY way to get anywhere from way out there was to fly...
