Does anyone know the status of P-51D 44-74928? I tried locating it on both Google Maps and Live/Bing Maps, and both the streetview on google and birds' eye view on Bing show it's not on that concrete pad anymore. Did I miss something about this or is it recent? I also noticed it's not listed on Aerial Visuals, either.

I live there....

It used to be at the bottom of the hill by the entrance to Coonskin Park Some years back, Then it was moved to a concrete pad at the top of the hill behind the hangars at a curve in the road. When I last saw it about 3 years ago it was there.

I've got some pics at home.........

Not in great shape. Has a strange prop on it, square tips on the blades. Legend has it that the prop was swapped out back in the 1960s for prop off a "civilian" P-51. There is (or was) old damage under the belly from being moved with a forklift.....

Also its well inside the gates so you can't get to it without some permission from the PAO..... Also you can't see it from anyother part of the airport (civilian side).

Mike,

That's where it used to be, but according to Mike Henniger's "Aerial Visuals" Locator, it was removed sometime prior to July 2008.

I talked with someone who is in the know at the base this afternoon.... He said this exactly......

As of this moment it is by the front gate outside for all to see and enjoy.

It does get moved from time to time. Sometimes it sits at the top of the hill on base and it can not be seen from outside the front gate. Sometimes it is put inside the hanger for airshows and stuff.

But anyway, it's still here.

The aerial shot did show it was gone, but its at the bottom of the hill where it used to be.
