P-38H tactical bomber

Sun Jun 07, 2009 7:17 pm

I am trying to run down some more information on this particular P-38H AAF Ser. No. 42-66923. She was used in tactical demonstrations at the Orlando Tactical Center (School of Applied Tactics) in 1944, as a test bed for using a pair of 1000 pounders. What squadron did she fly with? This ac may look familiar as there are some color pics of her floating around the net.

Boy, can't slip anything by around here!
Here is a close-up of the nose. Still trying to figure out which of the many squadrons she may have been assigned to, unless the "School" had their own AC with no squadron designated. A lot of squadrons were worked through the area, with 8,000 square miles of designated "practice area" and a LOT of bases in central Florida, it was a busy place. Many plane types worked through.
