Sun Jun 07, 2009 1:17 pm

Hi guys!

I got to meet and interview a WWII Marine who worked on the super secret WWII television guided cruise missile. I knew about project Aphrodite but had never heard of the Navy TDR-1.

here it is - I hope you like it!

Interesting interview. I had heard of the the TDR in researching for an illustration I was working on. Precision weapons were just starting to become a workable reality during that phase, Check out the USN's Bat Bomb (Glide bomb with radar guidance) and the German Fritz-X and others of the time. Here is a clip out of an illustration I worked on with the Fritz-X Glide Bomb, Roma strike on the Italian fleet as they escaped to surrender to the allies. Fritz was a FlyByWire system (flares in the back confuse people but let the pilot see it)
