Seems Sheyma was a busy place during WW2 with plenty of P-38's

Cool photos... looks like there's a wrecked B-29 there. Mostly burned out, but you can definitely see B-29 parts in there. Cool shots of the wrecked Rivet Ball too... there are some really interesting images in the Shemya section.

From the markings, it would appear to be an SB-29.

Interesting:

In 1999 I corresponded w/ one of the former base commanders on Shemya, and he said there were no WW2 airplanes there. I asked him how he knew for sure and he just repeated his first statement. Kind of strange.

In This Google Map Link I can see two airfields, the one on the left looks abandoned. Could this be where the dump the photographer was talking about is?
