Jenny In A Barn, or Old Kingsbury Aerodrome (Photo Bomb!)

Well, it's as close to finding a Jenny in a barn as I've never gotten, or likely ever will. I'd somehow never heard of this place until seeing it mentioned right here in WIX, and rushed out as soon as I could get loose. I hope I don't get in trouble for posting these here instead of some other section of this board, but this is the best I can figure to do with 'em.

Oh, and remember: there's gonna be a fly-in there on June 20, where y' get to see 'em fly and hear 'em sing their songs. Yessiree, I'll be there. So here's y' some pics, with my lame attempt at captioning them in the lead...

Open the side door to the hangar and stick yer head in, here's what greets your eyeballs. (There's a little surprise in this shot, can hardly wait to see who spots it.)



And lookee what they got hangin' off the business end of that thing. If you don't know what a rotary radial is, I have a feeling you're fixin' to learn, boy. It's a Le Rhone, and yes, it barks, growls, and snorts.



I'm no mechanic, but who can pass this up? Look ma, just one pushrod to operate both valves per cylinder!



Below: Now, is that purty or what? Smells like castor oil, in case you were wondering...

I said a Jenny in a barn, but it's really a Canuck in a hangar. So sue me.

Couple more, almost forgot. Here's the first warbird I stumbled upon.



Check out that 1921 Triumph! Purrs like a kitten, really quiet and smoooooth.

Below: Reckon that'll make some noise? Actually, the stacks are for testing purposes and are coming off; and the header manifold is going back on to make it look right.

It is East of San Antonio TX right of of I -10 (highway connecting San Ant to Houston.

I have been to there fly day before and it is a really great event, very low cost and informal.

Definitely recomend to anyone in the area.

Is that a toilet plunger or mop handle replacing the stbd wing skid he broke during his "soft" groundloop?

Steve, the VAHF link is a bit confusing because the calender dates are the 2008 schedule and it does not really reflect
the air museum part of the operation. VAHF are the folks who support Pioneer Flight Museum...re-enactors,
vehicles, support, etc. as I understand it.

Orrr..were you referring to the "thingy" attached to the starboard wing skid? Or something else in the pic?

I heard on the first flights of the Dreidekker she flew with the starboard wing high. He landed and they strapped
wrenches as ballast to the right skid...after a coupla cycles of that routine they got 'er to fly wings level.

Very nice, I STILL haven't made it there!!! When we were dropping our son off at TLU (Seguin-the "City" next to Kingsbury) my folks took their younger grandson sightseeing. He is my 11yr old warbird nut! They tried to go there, but it was closed.....so, next time, we try again!!! Cool Pics

If I understand how Jack and the ponies work correctly, you get one. Watch for the truck.

That's the story I was given by the top authority, alright. One thing about this bunch, they have little difficulty remembering that all this is ultimately supposed to be FUN. That's precisely why the wrench was left in place; because everyone gets a laugh out of it. All consistent with the pioneer flavor of this field, too.

They're actually going to fly a genuine original Oberursel? How many of those even still exist much less run?
And the unusual inboard strut arrangement is the visual clue on the D7 fuse.

Great to see a rotary on, rather than a static radial or a flat four. While fitting a more conventional engine is understandable in replicas, it does change the character and important aspects of the performance of an originally rotary powered aircraft a lot.
