FRIDAY - MAY 15, 2009

B-24 Liberator Day
at
Cavanaugh Flight Museum & Ol' 927's Roll-Out Party

You are all invited! There will be several WWII B-24 veterans in attendance. Also, there will be B-24 rides available. This would be a perfect time to renew or join the CAF. Here is the link for the event:

Wish I could be there Friday but will be unable, but I do think I'm gonna mozy on over Saturday to check out the festivities :D
I wanna see that Sherman run :D :!: I hear the visiting -47 went unserviceable , but hopefully a substitute will be in its place :?:
We'll just have to wait and see.

If any of you are interested, The Lib' will be coming to Midland for Memorial Day! Rides will be available there as well! It's open cockpit day and the Museum is open. The Helldiver will be here too.

This event has expanded beyond our expectations! We now have approximately 25 B-24 vets and their families coming.

If you ever wanted to thank a vet, this is a great opportunity!

Oh yeah, it is also a great way to support the "other" B-24

Please come and support the great folks at the Cavanaugh Museum, and the CAF B-29/24 Squadron.

It sounds like a wonderful event is shaping up! Even if all you can get your hands on is an audio cassette recorder - you or other volunteers/staff should go around and get some of the veterans' memories on tape! Or better yet, set aside an office space or side room with a video camera and record short interviews with the veterans. Here is what I would ask in a very abbreviated interview that might last 15 to 20 minutes tops:

1. Name and spelling of it.
2. Place and date of birth?
3. Memories of Dec. 7, 1941?
4. Date drafted or of enlistment?
5. Group and Squadron assignment?
6. Position on the crew and synopsis of duties?
7. How many missions he flew?
8. Most memorable mission?
9. What effect the war had on him as a person?

It would be a shame to have all those veterans in one place and not preserve some of their memories.

Zack! You are a mind reader. On Friday, the CAF Oral History Program will be in full swing, tape recorders rolling. In addition, the local news media will be out to interview the veterans as well. Hopefully the news affiliates will supply times or days with links to their reports......

Hello all! Just a quick update.... either today (Wed 5/13) or tomorrow, there should be a couple of media flights happening.... then on Friday is the B-24 Veterans Gathering and B-24A "Ol' 927" Rollout Party. The last email that I received had a total of 30 B-24 vets (and their families) planning on attending Friday.... Should be a wonderful time. I snagged this list from our website as it includes our B-24 vets signed on as attending..... Guys and Girls if you get a chance, come by, say hello and "Thanks" to these guys....... I can tell you from being around Jack Bradshaw (88 years young)...that being back around these aircraft, these guys become young again..... BTW, Jack was flying over the D-Day beachhead, 6-6-44... later while on another combat mission in a P-47, he was shot down..... by a B-24! Alan Brooks

Doug
No disrespect meant! Without the support of Mr. C., you, and your staff this would not be possible.

For those who have never visited the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, you are missing out on a tremendous collection of warbirds.

See you tomorrow afternoon,

Chris

Thanks in advance.

Hey Doug, I hear you cook up a pretty good batch of crawfish, but I gotta work all weekend....... I would ask you to save me a couple dozen of them "mudbugs", but I'll have to wait until next year....

Sorry to not include the Cavanaugh Flight Museum kickoff for this year in the prior post........ Your staff, both in the hangar and office are one of the reasons we are having a great year. I am going to drop off a few items on Friday morning, after I get off work. I only can stay for a few minutes as I need to grab some sleep before heading back to work at St Paul's on Friday night. Any special surprises coming in or already at the hangar? I will have my camera handy, just in case    Alan

Don't know where you found that schedule but it's from about 5 years ago. We haven't made a schedule per se. We wait to make sure what is coming in

It must be your browser picking up an old site. Our current site doesn't have a schedule.
