How many F-86 Sabres are there at POF in Chino?

Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:23 pm

On the occasions that I have been to Planes of Fame in Chino, I have only been able to spend a couple of hours at a time, never enough time to take it all in. One of the favorites is the F-86 Sabre and the pictures that follow are of the ones that were on site this year.

F-86A SN? (status: restoration ?)

There are several more F-86 Sabres at Planes of Fame in Valle, AZ. Does anyone have information on those jets?

Fly fast, fly safe.

Larry,
I can't answer your question, but those are some mighty fine pics you took! Areo Trader has a bunch of Aussie F-86's sitting in the dessert...

I'm curious as to the F-84 & T2 behind the FJ Fury picture. Are these owned outright by POF or on loan?

Dave,
Not to get picky but actually it is a RF-84. From the looks of the bent-down horizontal stab and the SAC "milky way" on the nose, I would guess it is a rare RF-84K FICON, only about 25 built. Sure would like to get it's tail number.

David,

The RF-84 Thunderflash SN52-7265, and T-2 Buckeye SN147474 are listed as POF aircraft. I do not know if they are owned by POF or on loan for display.

Oops  , missed the FJ-3 behind the China Lake Drone QF-86H. A portion of FJ-3 Fury SN125867 (status: static) is to the left of the T-2 Buckeye, the pair of A-4 Skyhawks, and the A-7 Corsair II.

Parking is rather tight in the back dirt lot.

If they get this one in the air it would be the second A to fly! The other is Ben Hall's A that is in England. A rare bird indeed!

Thanks for the information guys. I'd love to get my hands on an F84 and bring it back to airworthy, but after the Scooter is done!

How long ago was the former Shipley Sabre there? Any plans to fly the two Sabres together at any point?

I believe I heard that Shipley sold his MK 6 Sabre to Tom Friedkin? Is this info correct?

The China Lake "Fury" is really a QF-86H Sabre drone used by the navy, not a navy FJ Fury :) It's s/n is 53-1351.

Thanks for the great POF pictures!! Please post more if you have them.

Isn't that F-86 FU-067 the Sabre that belonged to Stu Eberhardt at one time as N186SE - s/n 51-13067...

I'm not aware that POF retains any aircraft on loan from the government.
