There's a good chance that they are speaking of the P-39 that is in the collection of the Niagara Aerospace Museum. The museum was located in downtown Niagara Falls but was booted from their location by the landlords of the building they were in (it was far from ideal anyhow).

The museum has a very out-of-date website at: http://aerospace.bfn.org/index.htm but there isn't much there at all. Half of it doesn't work.

The museum has "plans" to move to Buffalo as they have rec'd a fairly good size donation from an estate... but I haven't heard much about this for the better part of a year. The aircraft in the collection are currently in storage.

The P-39 was formerly located at the Naval and Servicemans Park in Buffalo... where I think it should have stayed quite frankly.
