So you think its fine to be deprived of information because it comes from a link? What makes you think that?

Well if that your case.. you ruin alot of peoples sources of information the world over. Hope your happy.

Shame my american mates this week sent me 10 links.. i shouldnt of clicked them ehhh???

Simple- many admins and mod on many boards do not allow much link to another places. Idea of forum is to build up own comunity, not to switch traffic to another web site. If you have some interesting image just post it:

If you think that there is topic with good info no problem about link. Or you can hot link image by use of BBCode, this add tag suround to image. For image this is:

Code:
[img][/img]

So final result will be image open in the post. No need to frequent switch of traffic to another board. In this way can be make exception on sites like Smithsonian, Bundesarchive..... as well theu are referent institutions.

I don't know what others think, but I for one won't feel deprived of information. Occasionally there are some really good links posted here, and no one's complaining about the practice in general. What's annoying is when someone puts up a sensational line (like this one) only to find it essentially worthless and (more importantly) misleading. I mean, we have our own Skyraider pilot(s) on the forum and plenty of good pictures, and I'm sure we'll see more later this year from airshow season.

Now, if you'd taken the link to the picture and directly linked (rather than linking to another forum) and given us some topic of meaningful discussion about it, or a good question, then maybe we'd feel like we had been given significant information... and wouldn't feel deprived of substance.

Oh, and everyone else, I suggest you don't be like me (or Jack) and answer posts like this - adding to the thread count and making it look like it might be an interesting thread that might be worth opening. If it's not worth your time of day, just don't respond.

Posting of a link of interest is AOK with me...... I do the same & often.

However.....adding a bit more to the sauce normally does give a bit more flavour.

- Why is that link of interest to you ? Historical, technology, gossip, whatever.....

- Is there a specific question related to the link ?

- Etc....?

A common one we often see are e-pay links. They are normally accompanied with a "you have to see this because......"

Nothing wrong with them, but often more enjoyable when you add your own perspective & spin for the community.
