Spooky...

Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:12 am

I drove around the Bassler Conversions place in Oshkosh today, and I could see from the street, a SE Asia pattern (but shiny) camouflaged C-47.

It turned out to be "Spooky," so do you guys know if the airplane is undergoing maintenance?

I seem to recall it had engine problems in the last year or so.

There was an article in the recent Twin and Turbine magazine about Baseler and they stated in one of the photo captions that it was purchased for turbine conversion. I am not sure if that is true or not, and I meant to post on here and ask, but just forgot.

Anybody else know more?

The "AC-47" photographed by Tulio at OSH is N88874, tail code "EN 847". This aircraft was registered to Basler Turbo Conversions LLC on 12/03/2008. It was formerly registered to Randsburg Corporation of WI. Photos of N88874 can be found at:

At least two other flying DC-3s/C-47s are painted as AC-47 gunships:

N2805J tail code "EN 770" owned by American Flight Museum of Topeka, Kansas

N514AC tail code "EN 927" registered to Robert P. Harper III of Los Fresnos, Texas

N2805J is scheduled to appear at the Yankee Air Museum's "Thunder Over Michigan" on July 18-19 at Willow Run Airport near Detroit, Michigan.
