Just my opinion, but it would be worth more if it didn't have that fake artwork on it. Heck, it's not even the right direction for how the cowling panel mounts to the airplane.

it figures free shipping, the seller lives a 1/2 hour from me. gary are you sure the faux nose art is in the wrong direction?? i sure won't pay his asking price regardless!!

Positive. The cowling piece is laying down, sideways, in the picture. It goes on the engine vertically. (Plus, only very rarely did they put nose art on the engine cowlings of a B-29......it did happen on occasion, but not often).

let's see what he gets for it. I am very curious. I came across a gentlemen several years ago that was selling a singe B-29 Hamilton blade. He would not ship it, for obvious reasons. It was pulled from the auction site. He lived pretty close NEAM so I sent them an email to see if they were missing anything. Shortly thereafter the auction was pulled.

yah.. I have never seen nose art on a cowling. Otherwise it would be called 'cowling art'.
is it a cowling flap he is offering?
The 330th had aircraft numbers on engine cowlings and sometimes.. the mechanics would name the engines after their mothers or girlfriends.. "Midge is acting up".. or "Helen purred like a kitten!"

It's been on ebay multiple times, with no bids. The art if nicely done, even if it doesn't make any sense to be there.
I know what he was trying to accomplish though. I bought 2 C-47 cowling pieces that I want to polish and paint up to look like P-47 cowling pieces. But the difference is I'm going to try to make it look as if they were removed from an actual plane, unlike 99% of all the nose art panels that you can buy that are just some random metal shape with random nose art and randomly sized national insignias and random serial numbers, etc etc all thrown onto one aluminum "canvas".

It is not a cowl flap he's selling, but rather the piece of cowling that your picture shows a "K 40" on. That is the piece I'm talking about. Trust me, I've taken those dang things off a gazillion times...I'm 100% positive that's what he's got there. And to get a little more detailed, it's an outboard panel, as the inboard ones have a little cut out for the blower drains.
You are definitely right about mechanics naming the engines. I've seen a picture or two of small names being painted on the nose bowls of some of the cowlings. As a matter of fact, we were going to do that on FIFI at one time, but that idea got "voted off the island."
