Undercarriage problems force down US fighter
A US fighter plane has made an emergency landing at Melbourne airport tonight.
The B1 Lancer was one its way to Avalon for an air show, but was forced to land at Melbourne instead because of problems with the undercarriage.
Police say the plane is unable to be towed from the area because of parts which need to be brought from Avalon.
Spokesman Marty Beverage says the plan can not be moved from the north-south runway at the moment, but flights should continue as normal.
"The airport at the moment is still open," he said.
"The east-west runway is still open.
"Unless we have some severe crosswinds, Melbourne airport will stay open until further notice."
