P-38 Aces in Sacramento

Thu Feb 19, 2009 1:57 am

Sunday Feb. 15th, four of us commuted to Sacramento to listen to a panel of P-38 Lightning Aces speak at the Aerospace Museum of Ca (previously known as the McClellan Museum). The event was put on by the Northern Calif. Friends of the American Fighter Aces Association and was another of the many panels they've put on over the years. Listening to these gentlemen talk about their experiences during WWII was quite a pleasure. The two hour moderated talk was well received and we were able to get items we brought or purchased there autographed.

P-38 pilots sitting from left to right:
Capt. Bill Behrns - 4.5 victory pilot with the 459th FS, CBI
Col. Joe Griffin - 7 victoryAce with the 367th FG, ETO (also flew under Chenault with the Flying Tigers in P-40's)
LtCol. Jack Lenox - 5 victory Ace with the 14th FG, MTO
Lt. Bob Milliken - 5 victory Ace with the 474th FG, ETO
Also on hand to listen to them talk, standing behind them L to R
Cdr. Ted Crosby - 5.25 victory F6F Hellcat Ace ("Ace in a Day")
Cdr. Ralph Foltz - 5 victory F6F Hellcat Ace

The Fairchild in the background is a museum restoration, not part of the talk.

Roger,
Thanks for the post on the "Lightning" Aces talk. I have been to a number of these events and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to talk with these humble heroes in person. I encourage anyone interested in aviation history to take advantage to attend suxh events as the day is fast approaching that first hand accounts will be impossible.
Gary
