Mystery-ish DC-3 ID needed

Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:08 am

I found this photo in my in-laws honeymoon photos. My father in law told me that they took a DC-3 ride across Florida to look at some land scheme. They got a free steak dinner and an airplane ride out of the deal...

Searching online I find information about the Gulf American land deals, Golden Gate Estates near Naples. I found that there were many airplanes associated with Gulf American. I cannot find any other photos of their airplanes.

This photo shows a partial registration of N35? _ _ _

Anyone know this airplane?

Anyone know of other photos or data for Gulf American?

Thanks.
Zane

This one perhaps?
April 30, 1965: Bought by Gulf American Land Corp/Modern Air Transport. Modern Air Transport/Gulf did not acquire supplemental charter airline status until 1966 which may explain the bare metal photographs my father took in August of 1965. She was probably in Modern AT colors by the end of 1965 though.

Zane, I found this in "Douglas DC-3 Survivors, Volume One" 1987 by Arthur Peracy. The N35PB on this aircraft was not registered until 1970 by PBA, so it is not the one in your photo. I thought it might help in some way in your quest for id.

Hmmmm, different gear doors? This last pic has the logo on the tail, the color pic on the fuselage....Hmmm

Thanks guys!

I don't think either one is the bird...no gear doors and different paint.

I found one other DC-3 with Gulf American links N137PB was N33327 in 1965...I think.
