8th Air Force Museum

Sat Feb 07, 2009 2:40 pm

What is the story about the 8th Air Force Museum at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana? Warbirds Online reported last November that the museum might be closed because it does not meet NMUSAF guidelines. The collection includes B-17, B-24, B-29, Vulcan, B-52, Sr-71 and many others, all displayed outdoors. The museum web page has not been updated since August, 2007.

Photos of the a/c on the webpage appear to show the planes in good presentable external condition, but obviously the B-24 (as one example) should go to any place that can put it inside, even if that is only in storage for the present. NASM and no doubt other museums want one and might take better care of it.

Thoughts?
