Oh yes. I've even seen films of Ike touring England in the nose of a Droop Snoot.

You want a "compact and bijou" crewed P-38 nose, try fitting a complete H2X scanner, indicator console and operator in there...
IIRC they had to reuse the original pre-production sets as they were in more seperate bits so could be fitted in a smaller space.
