Cancelled Air Shows for 2009

Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:14 am

Just been informed that the Cape Girardeau Show and the Goshen Shows are both cancelled. Real bummer, both great shows that I had been planning to fly in.

Big shame about Goshen. Great show, and probably the only place in the world where you can see Amish kids running around with USAF stickers on their clothes! :D

That is too bad about GSH. It has become a family tradition to go up there with our airplane(s) every year. Unfortunately, GSH is the heart of the recreational vehicle business, and it obviously isn't doing too well. The unemployment rate in that county is over 15% right now. I lived there will growing up and it is usually feast or famine. The industry will bounce back and my guess is Freedomfest will as well. Randy and the gang there at GSH did a great job of bringining in sponsorship from all the industry and a lot of those now closed plants would rent chalets for their company picnics. Better for the airshow to keep their powder try and come back with another great event in the future.

I can't help but think if the media would stop talking about how bad the economy is we would all be better off.

I am not sure this is a good barometer, but 60 miles south of GSH, where I live, you can't get a seat in a restaraunt without waiting an extended period of time on the weekend. I can't help but think if that things were really so bad nationwide that people would be willing to plunk down $15 bucks a head for food. Then again, I am not an economist by any means....

Cleveland has that too. I guess they're mostly Mennonites, not sure.

Plenty of Amish attend Reading. I think there is even a horse-drawn carriage parking area.
