Early B-17 in recruitment film.

Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:10 am

The James Stewart narrated recruiting film for the Army Air Forces has a great section on the B-17. (B-17Bs I think - open to correction) with a brief focus on each crew position and crewman's job.

It looks real empty compared to the later examples!

The whole 17 minute recruitment film.

The B-17 section is about halfway through - but the rest's interesting, too. There's a section showing those funny bomb trailers...

Oh, and James Stewart says your wings will get ya the girl...

Those are Y1B-17s James, an even better bit of film! I scanned through the film and noticed that some of the YBs had gotten the new Hydromatic propellers and others in the formation still had the external counterweight props. That bomb trailer sequence shows a really early B-24D, or possibly a C--I haven't tried to read the full serial number yet.

Very cool!

Ray Montgomery (Assistant Radio Operator Chester)
and Charles Drake (Navigator Lt. Howser)
from the movie "Air Force".

And Don DeFore & Peter Graves!
How cool is that?
