A friend sent me a link. What is the story behind this one?

Other than it is a B-24E and another of a series of publicity aircraft produced at Willow Run, I can't find anything on it. Ford did a creditable job of dedicating airplanes to many people, but the records of serial numbers and dates isn't available. I'll check with a Willow Run historian to see if he can help.

Thanks for posting a great picture of a B24 model ("E") I don't know much about. A Beauty.

Tom Lamphier

Am I missing something here? I assume that this is the same Tom Lamphier that was one of the designated "shooters" on the Yamamoto intercept out of Guadalcanal. Lamphier was a fighter pilot and flew the P-38 and possibly other types. Was this nose art something to depict his kills or his assigned airplane, meaning he had gone to flying bombers, which would surprise me.
