One of the P-47s in that photo crashed in a swamp down
south. It's remains are in a hanger down the street from
the B-17.

Are you saying there is a P-47 razorback outside Marengo ILL.

The plane bellied into a swamp.
It was then consumed in a brush fire.
Everything above the waterline burned, but
that which was below survived.
The "remains" are indeed in a hanger/barn
near Marengo. I'll try to snap a picture next
time I'm out that way, but rest assured
that I think you will be quite disappointed.

Bill, doesn't he have 2 of them? I think that is what Mike was telling me. I'd love to make a trip out there this summer in the hot rods again.

The real question is if a dataplate survived! It would be quite neat to see an early-style P-47 restoration (preferably in 4th FG markings :twisted:).

Mind you I really like the lines of the early P47s some refer to as razorbacks, but to my eye, the bubble canopy looks more "modern".
Then again, I really like the P35 - 1 nice looking a/c.
