photo emailing problem

This seems like the best place to get the straight scoop. I've tried to email some photos of a warbird but they arrived all grainy and not usable. Anyone have any suggestions?
That particular camera has been retired so it may be a moot point.

I assume the original files you are sending are OK before you send? A possible problem might be in what email service/program you are using, I have heard of some of them that "automatically" compress images to save bandwidth. What is the size of file you are sending and what is the size when it gets to the "other end"? Are Megapixel(pixel dimension and file size staying the same? What type file are you sending. Sorry to make it complicated, but computer problems can be just that!

-Was the picture like that before you emailed it?
-Was it a web based email program? (I've seen some that really compress photos, but that was a while back)
-What was the format the picture was saved as (.jpg .gif .bmp)?

You should be able to send a photo and have it arrive exactly like it was sent.

If the original images were clear and the ones emailed were not, some image processing program (perhaps part of the software that came with the camera) or part of your email client or service may have highly compressed them to "help" you. If you can provide a few more details of the process and programs used, it might help. Were they digital images from a digital camera to begin with? If so, do you know what the resolution settings or file sizes and types (i.e. .jpg, ,bmp or ?) were for the originals?

Also, were either the sender or receiver using AOL or one of the other free emails as I remember hearing similar issues where AOL settings or defaults caused images to be compressed and degraded.

If using AOl, go to Settings, Internet Options, then click "never compress graphics" when setting up AOL the default setting is "compress graphics? so you have to change it. Settings is on the toolbar at the top.

His e-mail address is a Yahoo account. I have one of those and it never compresses anything although total file size is usually limited to about 10 megs per e-mail (error says that the message is too large).

Brandon got it right on the yahoo. I did not get any 'msg. too large' notice and it's from film. I downloaded the images to my hard drive from a cd. I sent a single image and it still had the same problem, but the photos were only of average quality to begin with.
