O-1/L-19 Bird Dog training/tailwheel endorsement in No'East?

Hello All,

The club where I am a PT CFI is affiliated with a Glider Club/School, which has as it's tow plane a Cessna O-1/L-19 Bird Dog. This may be my avenue to pursue my desire to fly vintage aircraft one day, as I look to an opportunity to build tailwheel time. I've been offered the opportunity to fly it towing gliders, IF I can obtain the training.

The owner is reluctant at present to use it to train anyone, as this is our only ship for towing at present and the gliders make the most money for us during the warm months. If the ship were damaged in any way then we would be down for the count. If we get another then that might change.

In the mean time he said that if I could obtain my tailwheel endoresement IN AN L-19, then he would take me on. But he won't settle for a Cub or Citabria.

I am on Long Island in NY, so does anyone know of any place in the Northeast that has an L-19? I could make it a long weekend so don't mind to travel too far.

Any help appreciated!

Pete
