From Burma To Guadamala

C-54B s/n 42-72374 "The Flying Cross"served in the CBI with the ATC flying numerous runs over the HUMP. Surplused after the war it flew with both United and Western Airlines has NC86568 before going south to Guadamala based Aviateca Airlines. Anyone know what became of her???

Beautiful shots, Jack. According to Air-Britain, she became TG-ARA in Guatamala then was re-registered TG-AOA. Still around in November 1964 but nothing known after that.

FWIW, I saw several B-26 types @ the airport in Guatemala City on my first visit there, November of 1971. When I returned with a friend in March of 1973 ( to ride steam locomotives , not warbirds!), the few remaining B-26's were off of their landing gear & laying on the ground across the runway from the terminal area. When I returned again in 1974, they were all gone.
I never did see your aircraft in question, although she certainly could have been hangared then. Latin American was one big museum then for aircraft, railroads, militaria, etc. A friend of mine & his wife took a DC-3 to see some ruins and this was in late 1974.

According to a a couple of lists/ books I have the a/c was sold back to the US around 1970, becoming N8098. It was late wfu. in 1977 at Van Nuys, CA and presumed later scrapped there.
