What's the story on this one? Is it a flyer or under restoration?

Looks pretty complete and Clean! Good Job!

Already finished an engine change and have been working on completing interior. Brought it down from Buffalo, WY last Oct. after getting it ready to fairy down. Engine is a loaner...not quite as nice as Indy's
Hope to have complete interior and all gun positions in for next season...ready to fly now though

whats the purpose of the roll of TP hanging??
Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:25 pm
That's actually lacing cord for the wire bundles...Tp would go to the left of the shot , behind main cabin door entrance...next to the chem/toilet

I would guess the TP roll is for cleaning the navigator plot map.
Just a WAG.

Dave, that interior is looking great. I didn't know you had found any APS-3 components, but the radar operator's station is well on its way.
She's looking good, all round. Hell of a job you're doing, there.
How's your tailwheel strut? Did you get that problem worked out?
Thu Nov 27, 2008 10:27 pm
Thanks...you should have those prints by Mon with some of these photos for ref. Didn't find anything wrong with tailwhel lock or strut...we may not have kept tail down long enough to lock tailwheel during takeoff run

You know ....after looking at the photo with the lacing cord in it...It DOES look like TP!! No disrespect intended by my earlier reply
Thanks for checking out the photos

Dave, awesome project! I've always liked Attu Warrior since I saw that inspiring video of you handling that single engine failure on takeoff. Just superb handling!
Speaking of that incident, what did you guys ever find out? What caused the engine malfunction? What about the tailwheel?
Thanks for the info, and pictures of a long forgotten warrior. Harpoons are great!

Steve Rider was PIC on that flight and deserves the credit for getting her down alright. Tailwheel just hadn't locked....don't believe we kept tail down long enough on ground roll

We have gone through the whole system and haven't found anything.
The cause of the engine problem was the oil-cooler failing and we lost all the oil through the cooler. Those big rounds like their oil and tend to lock up when they don't get enough. We were right over the airport and had the runway made...old news. Am trying to get her ready for the upcoming show season and may move her down to AZ to to bomb bay doors as we are starting to get snow here

Any history on your bird? It is a shame that so many ended badly when they were deemed "of no use"
We then went to Tinian where the squadron was decomissioned and ordered to push all 15 PV-2's over a 100 foot cliff into the ocean! This was done by revving up the engines, taxing to the edge of the cliff and jumping out!
Ouch!!!

The TP is used by the RO to wipe off his screen after marking contacts with a grease pencil.
An advanced version of TP is still in use and is called Charmin
