The last person to be bombed by a Grumman Albatross....

What with all this Coast Guard talk, I reckon I have a place in CG history as being the last person to be bombed by an Albatross (not the bird) when I was standing on the flying bridge of the ship one day and I heard the plane coming up behind me, flying right up our stern....I watched her go over and fade out when suddenly WHAP!!...right beside me on the flying bridge a newspaper smacked the deck about 6 feet from me...turns out the plane had made a detour and played paperboy for the captain and dropped a newspaper for the captain and crew to read and no one had informed me to be on the lookout for it....I notified the bridge through the tube that the paper had arrived and added the comment "It'd be nice if someone tells me next time...it just missed me." to which the captain commented "No one told Seaman Morris they were going to drop something?"....dead silence on the bridge.

For all I know it could have been Connie Edwards old goat itself...

First, that's danged good aim to put a newspaper on the flying bridge of a cutter without anything more than a Mk.1 Eyeball.

Second, I think that's something to be proud of. You get to be part of history and you get to imagine the look on the faces of all your fellow crewmates when the Captain gave them the "stare".

great story......... on reading the title of the post i was saying wtf??? no albatross dropped bombs in anger!! on the other hand i guess a newspaper can be a bomb.... all bad news.
