On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, "it is all over, over here" To reiterate what centurion and others have already stated, God Bless Our Veterans!

I watched on TV the last three British servicemen from WW1 lay their wreaths at the cenotaph this morning, including Harry Patch, the last survivor from the trenches. Very moving. Their ranks get thinner every year. I then went to our local memorial to pay my own private respects. So many names for such a small place, the WW1 casualties are horrendous to look at, and it is repeated everywhere, no matter how small a place, up and down this country. We must never forget their sacrifices, and owe it to them to not make the same mistakes again. My thoughts to veterans across the world.

Thought this was a moving tribute http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JDF8QFNQQNg

I was watching a show on the Military Ch. the other nite about 2 guys who were guiding the viewers through one of the WW1 battlefields. One section they showed from the air was still totally pockmarked with hundreds of shell holes. I cant even begin imagine the horrors of being a participant in the "war to end all wars".

My dad was 14 when the Armistice was signed and living a short distance from a small Midwest town. He told of hearing the church bells and school bells ringing and of my grandparents loading him, his brother and sister in the horse-drawn wagon to head into town to find out what had happened. I think it was one of his favorite child-hood stories...

Too bad the "War to End All Wars" didn't work. We humans still seem to be at it.
