yep, Johnson Brake lever, pull back and left for left brake, back and right for right, and straight back for both.

Naw, it's got a low-range "granny gear" for taking off with heavy loads.

Seriously, though..Baldeagle is right, it's the old "Johnson Bar" brake lever. I wonder if they have a modern brake system installed as a backup. From what I've read, the Ford's original brakes were pretty unreliable. I believe all other flying Ford's have been retrofitted with modern brakes.
