UT Stadium Fly-Over

Heads up, Young Shep! The CenTex Wing, along with the Highland Lakes Sqd. C-47 "Bluebonnet Belle" will make a mass fly-over of DKR Memorial Stadium for the rededication of the Veteran's Field Memorial. Aircraft will join up in orbit around Barton Creek Square Mall at 1:50pm. The C-47 from Burnet, a C-45 from Taylor, and the rest coming in from San Marcos. Scheduled to be in the flight are: C-47, C-45, T-6, SNJ, CJ-6A, T-34A, O-2A, U-3A, U-11A, Kate replica, Zero replica, P-39.

When are you guys doing this? Need any paasengers? I wish you'd have flown over the stadium in Lubbock and made a distraction last week!

According to the Longhorn site, the flyover is to be this Sat Nov. 8 at the Baylor game.

The fly-over on the 8th was two FA/18's, to open the game. We flew over for the rededication of the Veteran's Memorial.
Most TV news had a short story on it, and showed the planes flying over, saying something to the effect that "you knew something special was going on at DKR Memorial Stadium because of the fly-over by the Commemorative Air Force". The Time-Warner Cable News 8 had the best coverage, I hear they showed all the planes passing overhead and ran the story several times an hour for the rest of the day.

We had nine planes, instead of the twelve that were scheduled.
The San Marcos Kate (#310) was down due to the gear situation mentioned on another thread.
The Highland Lakes C-47 "Bluebonnet Belle" blew a cylinder on the way home from Lackland AFB. They worked hard all week on it, but I received an E-mail late Friday night saying they worked up until 9pm, and though the cylinder was replaced, the run-up had problems that they weren't able to solve yet, so they had to scrub.
Bill Powers' CJ-6A was towed out of the hangar and he and the back-seater saddled up only to find the battery was dead.
Leading "Longhorn Flight" was "Horn A Lead", and Texas-Ex, Joe Enzminger in his T-34. Horn A flight had an SNJ, T-6, and Zero replica.
Horn B Lead was the C-45 "Taylor Maid", with Horn B 2 the U-3A and Horn B 3 the U-11A
Horn C Lead was the black O-2A (she lead herself and her flight was in perfect formation at all times!)
Horn D flight was on the ground.
Horn E flight was the P-39. (Yes, he got a lot of ribbing about that, and wouldn't refer to himself and "Horn E" over the radio!)

I am going to correct what I wrote earlier. I see now that the fly over of the Good Ole Birds, was at that the ceremony on the 7th, and the smoker planes flown by the kids was on game day the 8 th. This doesn't change the meaning of what I wrote, but I think it is a good idea to be accurate when the facts are known. I wish the VETS ceremony could have been a half time of the game when 90,000 plus were there. Colo. U had one last year, very well received even in a liberal town.
As a former U T student, a former coach there, (another story) a big football fan, and a lifetime Texas Ex and whose Brother as well as nieces and nephews went to Texas, I would love to have flown my Spitfire over the stadium. I'd like to have put a few 20 mm rounds into that Crabtree guy from the Redneck Raiders also.
And Hook Em Horns, Beat the Barbarians on the Brazos in two weeks.

Not thread cap but I was at the other UT Stadium (TN Volunteers) Saturday and there was a flyover in honor of Veteran's Day. Two F/A-18 Super Hornets from VFA-11 "Red Rippers" out of NAS Oceana. Just don't ask about the game, ugh.
