Seeing the rough looking invasion stripes on the medevac bird makes me want to see something like that on the airshow circuit. The AF Museum comes close with their Mosquito display - a crewman with a bucket and brush.

Even if I owned a warbird (and if I chose to join the invasion stripe crowd) I admit it'd be hard not to mask the lines. I applaud Gary for brushing the markings on Ol' 927 and look forward to seeing how the NMUSAF replicates the paint on Memphis Belle.

The first picture "Ready for Market Garden" is confirmed as made at Airstrip B-82 Grave - Keent where on one day in September 1944, in total 209 C-47s and Dakotas landed on the floodplains of the Maas River, just South of Nijmegen (NL). One of the participating aircraft on that day is the present PH-PBA of DDA Classic Airlines, the former HRH Prince Bernard Dakota.

Tom,those external parapacks contained guns, ammo and other supplies. They were dropped by the Jumpmaster's station by the troop door.I found a page in a C-47A manual that shows the control station
