Hi All,
Back in about 1985 when I was working in Van Nuys, CA, a pal took me over to the Burbank, CA airport to visit a Merlin engine rebuilding shop. For the life of me, I can't recall the name of the shop. Does anyone out there know the name of the shop at Burbank Airport that specializes in rebuilding Merlin engines? And are they still in business?
Thanks...

I don't know, but perhaps it was Dave Zueschel, unfortunately lost in an F-86. The other well know engine aces in California, were/are Dwight Thorne, Mike Nixon now at Tehatchapi and Jack Hovey at Ione, previously at Oakland.

Very close. Sylmar. I'll never forget end of Feb 87 we were headed to a Voyager fund raising dinner and stopped to get some car parts right around the corner. My uncle wouldn't take me to Dave's shop (not that we would have been let in) and then the crash was two months later. Darn!

I think Mike Nixon started out around there and Randy Scoville had a shop somewhere out that way but I don't know if he was doing the Merlin/Griffon work anymore at that point. I don't recall when Mike moved to Tehachapi. If it was Randy you probably wouldn't forget being around him.
Aircraft Cylinder is in the Burbank area as well as a couple of prop shops.

Not for much longer.. they're moving
Zueshels shop was taken over by Rick who had been working there since he was about 12 & a few years back Rick moved the business to Addison Tx.

Vintage V-12's was located at Sun Valley before the move to Tehachapi, don't know where he got started.
