Weekly Digest 16MM Films Doolittle & Others Any Value???

Mon Sep 29, 2008 10:01 pm

Hello, I just purchased a collection of AAF collectibles for my personal collection. I can identify most of the items in the collection, however, there are 10 16MM films that seem to be original, that are Weekly Digests. Included in the films are Patton and Doolittle Homecoming, Jet Assisted Takeoff, General Arnold, FDR/Commander and Chief, and others. Are these of any value? How many are there in the series and when were they made? Any help would be appreciated. I dont have a projector and do not know if I should buy one and keep the films or just get rid of them. Thanks to all...

Hello, I do not have a projector to see what is on it. I just unrolled the film enough to view the titles. I would not even know where to begin on a price. Any help would be appreciated.

Run with them to have them put onto DVD's as the really old film is all nitrocellulose based and very brittle and as flamable as gasoline

That is a myth actually. Neither eight nor sixteen millimeter motion picture film stock was made with nitrocellulose, only thirty-five millimeter. It may still be fragile but it isn't going to go off like a fire bomb. If you are really worried the film may have "Safety Film" printed on it between the perforations. If by some bizarre chance you have the one set of reels ever made from nitrate it will have the word "Nitrate" printed there instead.

I'd still get them transferred to DVD regardless since you won't have to worry about finding a 16mm projector and maybe having the film break.
