The Movie 'Australia'

Folks-
Lots of WWII aviation content in movies these days! Just saw a trailer for a movie called 'Australia' with Hugh Jackman and what's her face (the australian gal, former Mrs. Tom Cruise) and they showed attack scenes from what LOOKED like 'Tora tora tora' and some other more recent footage shot for the movie...caught me totally by surprise! Anyone else catch it?

The actress is Nicole Kidman.
The climax of the film depicts the Japanese attack on Darwin, Australia.
As far as I know, all of the aerial footage is new (though possibly shot with "Tora" T-6 conversions).

No way. Definitely looks like original Tora sequences. Not thats it a bad thing, I actually prefer them over many of the Pearl Harbor shots. Ill see it.

Kidman, right....could'nt think of her name at the time....
One scene DEFINITELY looked to be out of Tora Tora to me, but the rest looked like new footage to me....check out the trailer for yourselves and you decide....

Well, the attack shots in the first trailer were definately from T-T-T (I've seen that flick so many times I pretty much know it shot for shot.)
Most of the battle stuff in the second trailer was lifted from "The Michael Bay Abomination That Shall Not Be Named" (although I recognized one shot from "The Thin Red Line.") At the end of the second trailer, there's a laundry list of over a dozen films under the heading "Footage From:" including PH, Private Ryan, X-Men 1&3(!), Man From Snowy River, Ned Kelly, and others.
I think WK is right. That second trailer was a bit rough. YouTube is famous for fan "tribute" videos. I find it a bit odd that people waste time splicing bits of their favorite movies together and adding some silly music track, then posting it like they're the next Spielberg..but to each his own.

When Steven Spielberg was a kid, he did exactly that - he made a home movie called Fighter Squad by mixing stock footage with shots of his friends in the cockpit of a P-51. You gotta start someplace...

It could be a kid "practicing" for someday getting his dream job. As a creative professional, I think it is pretty good for using the footage from here and there. Good school project.

I guess I should have looked a little closer at that. 
I don't mind if it is a kid/teen sitting at his computer being creative. Beats having them on the streets with nothing to do.

Imagine my surprise last night when watching TV with the Mrs. and a preview for Australia starts playing!
It was clearly different, but there was definitely part of the plot that includes a Japanese attack!
