This thread remind me of something I read once. I think it was in Jablonski's book "Flying Fortress".

There was a magazine advertisement that showed some bombers in action and had a smiling gunner asking "Who's afraid of the big bad Wulf?" (meaning the Focke-Wulf Fw190).

Somebody in a bomb group in England had every man sign it, wrote "We are!" at the top, and mailed it to the magazine.

No false bravado with those guys.

Well- many of this bomber have failed but their crew are saved by resistance who risk their life and return them back to units. In my contry was airfield who was active since 1942 and there was number of aviatiors return to their home.
