Privately owned Harrier back in the air

Tue Sep 16, 2008 11:09 am

From today's ICAS FastFacts email:

NALLS TEST FLIES SEA HARRIER

The only privately owned Harrier jump jet performed four take-offs and four landings yesterday, September 14. Ten months ago, the aircraft had a landing gear problem that required some repairs. With these tests taken care of, ICAS member and air show performer Art Nalls is making plans for a checkride and an aerobatic competency evaluation in this one-of-a-kind air show airplane. ICAS members should expect Nalls and the Harrier to make their air show debut soon thereafter.

How the heck does he afford to fly that? Not even counting hard to find parts and maintenance, the fuel bill alone has got to be astronomical!

Now, if he could do his act with an A-4, he could recreate some of the Falkland air battles! Wouldn't that be a cool, one-of-a-kind act!

Who owns the Harrier parked airside, adjacent to the Boeing museum at Boeing Field? I saw it last week parked beside a Mig 17.

Art has had an incredible team of volunteers that have devoted countless hours to seeing this happen like a lot or warbird projects. To top it off, Art is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I'm looking forward to seeing him fly the SHAR in a few weeks!
