Yes- that's a good website. You just have to think about some of the photos though. A BUNCH of them that I've seen are reversed!

That O.D. B-29 was one of the tanker conversions that flew the Hump in support of 58th Wing operations. Notice that she's turretless.

what is the thing with those angle cut out extensions on the turret guns ?


Flash suppressors, to keep the muzzle flashes from blinding the gunner. 8) Many B-17s also had them on the tail guns.

I believe those extensions are called "blast tubes".......they direct the gasses generated from firing the guns, outward to each side, away from the bore axis.
